We are a UK based movement run by Celebrant volunteers with the purpose of promoting the need for reform to the current outdated marriage laws to ensure that ALL couples are able to have the choice of a legal wedding ceremony that is meaningful to them. The Law Commission recommendations on the future of Marriage Law in England and Wales are due to be released later this year and it is vital that celebrants are included in future reform.
To ensure that independent celebrants are not overlooked we must raise our profile; it is vital that MPs understand that any reform to the marriage law reflects the social reality of modern relationships and the important role of independent celebrants who work with ALL couples; currently this is not the case and many MPs do not understand the service we provide. To protect our businesses it is essential that MPs understand that the content of our ceremonies is couple led; we are professionals who serve ALL couples, including those with faith, mixed faith and no faith and create wedding ceremonies that are meaningful to them.
The current marriage laws in England and Wales discriminate against many couples who deserve to have the choice of a legal wedding ceremony that reflects their beliefs. HOW TO GET INVOLVED
It is now more important than ever that we raise the profile of independent celebrants. You can get involved by joining in, spreading the word, sharing our posts, speaking up and being a part of the change.
We can no longer sit back and assume MPs understand about independent celebrants and what we offer, many do not even know we exist and it’s vital that we make sure they do!
Join in by getting the word out there. We will also share any upcoming campaigns and news stories.
GCCM is run by a group of independent celebrant volunteers and we are always keen to have passionate and motivated new members join us. If you’d like to get more involved please do join the GCCM team of volunteers, the more active volunteers we have on board the better!
